CAP Donations put to Work |
The First American State Bank Fitness Festival is CAP's primary funding event where we most recently raised $68,000 with $55,000 of that going to the Cherry Creek School District Prevention Office. The FASB Fitness Festival is more than a fundraiser for the Community Asset Project, Inc. (CAP) and the Cherry Creek School District's Prevention efforts. It's good old-fashioned fun and considerable challenge for some. There is great food served at the end, but most importantly, it is an event that brings parents, teachers, students, administrators, and community members together to celebrate and to build strong, meaningful relationships with youth. Profits from the Fitness Festival fund many of our important prevention programs. We estimate that the Fitness Festival funding influences the majority of our students, their families, district staff and community members. Here are just a few of the programs and people that are positively influenced by the funding from the Fitness Festival:
$12,000 - The Link Crew Program will positively connect approximately 4000 new 9th grade students to our six high schools with upper class leaders from each school for a day-long leadership training prior to the beginning of school, with mentoring and other activities continuing throughout the school year.
$18,000 - The WEB / Welcome Everybody Program will positively connect over 4500 new 6th grade students to our 9 middle schools with 8th grade student leaders for a day-long leadership training prior to the beginning of school, with mentoring and other activities continuing throughout the school year.
$5,000 - Program Development for 5 District I-Teams: The I-Teams are special education alternative programs for at-risk 11th and 12th grade students from each of our 5 high schools. These students are required to have a job and must stay drug-free. Staff works with families of students, employees and court-ordered personnel.
$7,000 - Staff, Parent, Community Workshops and Training - With changing times, we must continue to expand our school / community asset initiative. It is critical that we continue our work to bolster staff development, youth leadership trainings, parent trainings and our Alternative to Suspension Parent/Student Workshop held for first-time offenders of our district Alcohol and Other Drug Policy.
$13,000 - Evaluation Tool/Search Institute Survey - Administration of Search Institute Survey, "Profiles of Student Life and Behavior." In order to continue evaluation of our school / community initiative, this is a critical need.
$5000 - Youth/Adult Summit - The Youth/Adult Summit is a one-day event to be held every March for 500 - 600 youth and adults to come together to discuss important life topics and to build strong relationships to promote positive youth development. The total cost of the Summit is close to $20,000 and is supplemented by city, corporate and individual sponsorship.
